SMX-N Nasal Spray · 10 mg / 10 mL

SMX-N is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) derived from the 4–10 fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone, with a Pro-Gly-Pro C-terminal extension added for metabolic stability. Critically, the fragment retains none of ACTH's hormonal activity — it does not stimulate cortisol production.

Why intranasal. As with all peptides in this class, oral bioavailability is negligible. Intranasal administration leverages the olfactory and trigeminal pathways and is the route used across essentially the entire published research base for this compound.

What the research literature reports. The most replicated preclinical finding is upregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF). Dolotov and colleagues (Brain Research, 2006; PMID 16996037) reported that a single intranasal administration in rats produced a 1.4-fold increase in hippocampal BDNF protein and a 1.6-fold increase in TrkB tyrosine phosphorylation, with a 3-fold increase in exon III BDNF mRNA. Research has also examined partial engagement of melanocortin MC3 and MC4 receptors, and effects on attention and working memory. The parent peptide has a very short plasma half-life; downstream signalling effects reported in the literature outlast plasma presence considerably.

The compound is used clinically in Russia as a nasal spray for post-stroke cognitive recovery and optic nerve indications. It is not approved by the FDA or EMA, and is supplied here as a research compound. As with Selank, the strongest data originates in Russian-language literature with limited independent replication.

This formulation. 10 mg of SMX-N in 10 mL of sterile saline (1 mg/mL), in a metered pump bottle delivering 0.125 mL per actuation — 125 mcg per actuation, approximately 80 actuations per bottle. Supplied ready to use.
