What "research use only" means

Every compound AVERON supplies is labelled "for research use only". The phrase appears on vials and websites across this market, often in small print, and it is frequently contradicted by everything around it. We want to explain what it means, and why we take it literally.

The meaning

Research use only, often shortened to RUO, means a material is supplied for laboratory research. It is not supplied as a medicine, it has not been manufactured or tested as a medicine, and it is not intended for use in people or animals.

That applies even where the same compound is an approved medicine somewhere in the world. An approved medicine is a specific product, made under specific manufacturing controls, tested to specific standards, and authorised for a specific use. Research-grade material of the same molecule is not that product.

Why the label alone is not enough

Regulators judge what a product is intended for by looking at everything a seller says and does, not only at the label. A seller who writes "research use only" on a vial but publishes dosing charts, injection instructions and promises of results is, in the eyes of many regulators, marketing a drug for human use.

In 2025 the United States Food and Drug Administration sent warning letters to online sellers of research compounds, including several that used research-use-only labels while providing human-use guidance. In Indonesia, the Health Law of 2023 and the rules of the national food and drug authority, BPOM, restrict the marketing of medicines. We do not think the label should be used as a disguise.

• no before-and-after images or testimonials about results

What they do contain is what the research shows, what it does not show, the regulatory status of each compound, and how laboratory testing works. We think that information is genuinely useful, and that it is more honest than the alternative.

What it does not mean

Research use only does not describe quality. It says nothing about whether a batch is good or bad. That is what independent testing is for, which is why every batch we sell has a report you can check on the laboratory's own server.

Your responsibility
